The EISA circuit’s second stop brought the field to Whiteface Mountain for the Saint Lawrence Carnival. Heavy snow leading up to and during the event, combined with cold temperatures, added another wrinkle to the competition. However, racing went off without a hitch as the best skiers in the East duked it out with much to play for.

Dartmouth Squeaks Out Carnival Victory

Trailing the University of Vermont after the Nordic events, Dartmouth secured a narrow team victory through a dominant Alpine showing. The Big Green men swept first place in both the Slalom and GS, while the women secured second-place finishes on both days. Oscar Zimmer was a force across both days of racing, delivering a victory in the Slalom and a fourth-place finish in the GS to take Skier of the Week honors for the men.

Zimmer was far from the only skier of note for Dartmouth. First-year Sawyer Reed landed in second and eighth in the two GS races, while Heming Sola finished seventh in the Slalom and eighth in the GS. Benny Brown grabbed yet another podium for the Big Green when he skied to third in Thursday’s GS. For the Dartmouth women, Zoe Zimmerman returned to top form in Slalom, landing in second place. Emma Resnick added valuable points with sixth and seventh-place performances.

Newcomers Top GS Race

The Giant Slalom featured breakthrough performances from several newcomers. Isabella Knutsen, a sophomore at Saint Michael’s, claimed the women’s GS victory in just her second carnival appearance. Knutsen capitalized on a fast second run to take the win. On the men’s side, Roman Elvidge of the University of New Hampshire secured his maiden carnival victory, holding off Dartmouth’s Reed and Brown to give UNH its third win of the season.

University of Vermont Women Respond

The University of Vermont women’s team responded to a shaky start to the season with a dominant showing. Cydnie Timmerman won the Slalom to claim the leader’s bib, while teammates Kendahl Roufa and Sara Stiel finished fourth and sixth, respectively, to secure the team win for the day. Stiel, a first-year from Canada, also placed fourth in the GS to earn Skier of the Week honors on the women’s side.

Noyes Grabs GS Leaders Bib

Colby’s Althea Noyes secured another podium finish in the GS, improving on her performance from the previous week to claim second place. Following a second and third-place finish to open the season, she is set to wear the leader’s bib next week at the Dartmouth Carnival. Noyes approached the race with a straightforward mindset, stating, “I entered without any real expectations about results, I just wanted to continue pushing”. While she will be wearing the leader's bib, she noted that her focus remains entirely on “continuing to push the pace and have good tactics”.

Middlebury Place Five Different Skiers in Top 10

The Middlebury Panthers looked much improved from a week prior, with five different skiers logging top results. They were led by senior Sophia Tozzi, who grabbed her second podium with a third-place finish in the GS and backed it up with an eighth-place finish in the Slalom. Nicholas Unkovskoy skied to fifth in the GS, and first-year Julian Arthur finished sixth in the Slalom.

Saint Lawrence, Williams, Bates, Boston College Grab Strong Results

Other schools also saw strong individual results. Host Saint Lawrence was led by Alec Nolan, who achieved a career-best 14th place in the GS. For Williams, Eliza Sullivan followed up a previous podium with another top ten finish, strengthening the chances of an NCAA Championship return for the Ephs. First-year Bates skier Regan Clute broke into the top 30 in both events, while Bode Flanagan secured top ten finishes on both days for Boston College.

Attention Turns to Dartmouth

The EISA circuit will resume on Friday when the league travels to the Dartmouth Skiway for the Dartmouth Carnival.
