Dartmouth Triumphs; Middlebury takes Second

Hanover, NH: Middlebury put up a strong fight to garner a total of 842 points but in the end the efforts were not enough to combat Dartmouth's depth in all fields, producing a walloping 921 points at their home carnival.
Dartmouth's most eventful moment came with the sweep of the Women's podium in the 10k Skate race with freshman Sophie Caldwell winning with a 29:53.9 followed by fellow Dartmouth skier Rosie Brennan who posted a time of 30:21.6. Finishing up the trifecta was Ida Sargent who posted a 30:23.9.
Triumphing on the men's Nordic side was Simeon Hamilton who navigated the hilly and demanding Dartmouth course with relative aplomb resulting in a winning time of 38:06.5. Following close on his heels was University of Vermont skier Franz Bernstein with a time of 38:09.3. Hamilton's teammate Tim Reynolds was not far off, skating in with a time of 38:14.0 to net third place in the collegiate standings.
Keeping in line with the winner list reading like a copy from yesterday, William Ford took first place for the University of New Hampshire in the Men's Slalom with a total time of 1:33.62. Following up with a total time of 1:34.21 was University of Vermont Skier David Donaldson who was able to gain enough time on first run winner Sean McNamara to bump McNamara, who posted a time of 1:34.29, to third place.
For the Women Courtney Hammond again reigned supreme, confidently slicing through the Slalom course to a time of 1:38.07. University of Vermont skier took up the fight against Hammond's domination, but with a time of 1:38.81 was able to garner second but not the sought after win. Another Catamount also completed the top three standings as Jilyne McDonald laid down a 1:39.04 to take third.
For the team standings Middlebury was the remarkable standout for the weekend, producing a solid second place finish with 842 points to bump perennial runners up University of Vermont and University of New Hampshire to third and fourth places with 779 and 713 points respectively. Williams narrowly took fifth place with a total of 575.0 points, bumping Bates, 574.5 points, into sixth by only half a point.
Join us next weekend at the Middlebury Carnival to see if the home setting will allow underdog Middlebury to run with their success this weekend and take on the dominating titan of the east, Dartmouth.
